THE MORPHOLOGY OF JOINTS AND LIGAMENTS IN THE HEAD OF A GENERALIZED HAPLOCHROMIS SPECIES - HAPLOCHROMIS-ELEGANS TREWAVAS 1933 (TELEOSTEI, CICHLIDAE)

This paper deals with the articulation facets and ligaments of apparatuses of the chichlid fish Haplochromis elegans. It provides a basic description for comparative studies of the functional morphology of cichlid fishes. Therefore, those aspects of connections relevant to functional morphology (viz. position, shape, kind of tissue) are emphasized. The functional significance of the described characters and their role in various biological activities are discussed.
