INCORPORATION OF NON-AMPHIPHILIC COMPOUNDS INTO HOST MONOLAYERS

Alkanes and substituted alkanes are not able to form stable monolayers at the gas-water interface because of the lack of a polar headgroup. With the support of an amphiphilic host compound it is possible to stabilize mixed monolayers with a high fraction of non-amphiphilic molecules. We have produced stable and transferable mixed monolayers which we have characterized by surface potential and surface pressure measurements.
