OPTICAL-DETECTION OF ELECTRIC 2-LEVEL SYSTEM DIPOLES IN A POLYMERIC GLASS

摘要
At temperatures well below 1 K the influence of an electric field on spectral diffusion of optical transitions in organic amorphous solids is demonstrated. When an electric field is applied to the sample after spectral hole burning, an increase of the time dependent hole broadening can be observed. The additional broadening is reversed when the field is switched off. This effect is attributed to the interaction of the external field with two level systems (TLS) possessing electric dipole moments. A model description of the effect is presented and an average value for the dipole moment of the TLS is evaluated. © 1995 The American Physical Society.
