摘要
It has been noted by a number of researchers that uniformly spaced tubes placedperpendicularly to the oncoming flow produced nonuniform flow across the row. The present tests identified regions of greatest nonuniformity behind a single row and two rows of tubes. The simultaneous measurements of pressure distribution around the circumference of four tubes allowed the evaluation of instantaneous mean drag and lift coefficients for each tube. For the transverse spacing of T/D = 12 the lift coefficient on some tubes reached 40% of the drag coefficient despite the symmetry of each tube and equal spacing of the tubes. The lift was due to asymmetric flow caused by biased flow in the gaps. The biased flow was metastable and could switch intermittently. It was concluded that the nonuniformity of gap flows was significant in the range 1 < T/D ≤ 5 1·75 and disappeared beyond T/D = 2·1. A similar phenomenon was found behind two staggered rows of tubes. © 1990 Academic Press Limited.
