摘要
NEAR the Galactic Centre are several filamentary radio structures that have become known as 'threads' 1 and which are thought to signify either magnetic loops 2 or electric current paths 3 between active regions and the galactic magnetic field. Using the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Telescope, we have found a new elongated radio source, G359.1-0.2, within 1-degrees of the Galactic Centre. Observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array and the Very Large Array show it to be filamentary in nature, extending more than 20 arcmin in length but only 10 aresec wide. This object is spectrally similar to the previously known threads, but unlike them has kinks along its length, and does not appear to be obviously connected with any active region that might be responsible for its generation.
