CHARACTERIZATION OF DYES IN ENVIRONMENTAL-SAMPLES BY THERMOSPRAY HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHY MASS-SPECTROMETRY

摘要
The use of thermospray HPLC/MS to characterize azo, diazo, and anthraquinone dyes in wastewater and gasoline is demonstrated. Thermospray analysis of these dyes primarily produced left bracket M plus H right bracket ** plus ions with few fragments. 'Filament on' operation of the interface aided in the production of fragment ions for the azo dyes analyzed. Thermospray HPLC/MS methods are demonstrated to detect dyes down to 10 ppt (parts per trillion) in wastewater, 100 ppb in soil, and 1 ppm in gasoline. The 'filament on' operation of the thermospray interface provided additional fragment ions, aiding the structural elucidation of these dyes.
