摘要
We report on a continuing study of the dynamical processes in Tm, Ho:YAG that follow excitation of the H-3(4) level of Tm and lead to emission at 2-mu-m. The initial excitation undergoes a cross relaxation to the 3F4 level of Tm from which it is transferred to the I-5(7) level of Ho. We have measured the cross relaxation rate as a function of temperature and of Tm concentration and the Tm-Ho energy transfer rate as a function of temperature. The spectral overlap between Tm(3F4) and Ho(I-5(7)) causes a thermal equilibration of the excitation in these two levels and, by examining the temporal behavior of emission patterns from different spectral regions of the infrared emission we can study the approach to such equilibrium.
