摘要
When metals are placed in the human body as artificial implants, some primary criteria which must be met are: (1) biocompatibility, (2) adequate mechanical properties, and (3) high corrosion resistance. The principal metals used in implants today are 316L stainless steels, cobalt-chromium alloys, titanium and the titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V. A review is presented of recent advances in materials technology that promise significant improvements in surgical implants' durability and safety.
