STUDY OF THE TOXICITY OF SOME SILICONE COMPOUNDS IN RELATION TO MARINE BIOLOGICAL CHAINS

The toxicity of organosilicon compounds in the sea, towards marine organisms, was studied from 2 view points. Direct toxicity, i.e., the consequences of those compounds on survival of those organisms was investigated, as was induced toxicity, i.e., the effect of the polluting product by transfer along marine alimentary chains. The possible accumulation of organosilicon and its consequences on the consumer of sea-food was also studied. The toxicity of organosilicon compounds used was low. The induced toxicity was very low. According to this, there does not seem to be a great danger of transferase-concentration of the product through out alimentary chains, at a reasonable rate of polluting products.
