摘要
The objective of this experiment was to examine the effects of inbreeding (levels of zero, .125 and .25) on fitness traits in Tribolium casteneum on an overall and a within family basis. Pooled inbreeding depressions were linear and statistically significant for proportion of larvae surviving at 21 days of age from up to 25 incubated eggs, for 21-day larval weight and its within-family coefficient of variation and for fecundity of mated females. These traits changed from 11 to 13% per 10% increase in inbreeding. Larval survival, larval weight and fecundity changed in the negative direction, and the change for coefficient of variation for larval weight was positive. For egg survival and fecundity, the male x inbreeding level of offspring interaction was not significant; but for larval weight and coefficient of variation for larval weight, males differed significantly and markedly in response of their offspring to inbreeding. In highly fecund species such as poultry, we speculate that the selection criterion "least unfavorable response of offspring to inbreeding" in combination with direct selection for the desired trait might augment response to selection for fitness traits.
