Symmetric expressions for fission and neutron (or other particle) emission widths GAMMA //f, GAMMA //n etc. are derived by applying uniformly the canonical version of the transition-state method to both cases. The resulting expression for the ratio GAMMA //n/ GAMMA //f etc. is somewhat different from conventional formulae.
