EFFICIENT - CF2 GENERATION BY IR MULTIPHOTON DISSOCIATION - TIME-RESOLVED OBSERVATION OF INFRARED CHEMILUMINESCENCE FROM THE - CF2+O2-]COF2+O REACTION

IR multiphoton dissociation of Octafluorocyclopentene is used as an efficient means for the generation of :CF2. Time resolved infrared chemiluminescence has been observed from the reaction of ground state :CF2 (X 1A1) radicals with molecular oxygen, generating COF2 as a product. IR emission observed around 5 mum region has been assigned to nu1 and 2nu2 modes of COF2. The kinetic measurements of the reaction as a function of oxygen pressure suggest a rate constant to be 5 x 10(11) cm3 mol-1 s-1, which corresponds to a :CF2 temperature of less-than-or-equal-to 3650 K.
