CONVENIENT SYNTHESIS OF DIBENZYL DISELENIDES UNDER PHASE-TRANSFER CONDITIONS

摘要
A convenient and simple method for the synthesis of dibenzyl diselenides under phase transfer conditions is described. The process involves the reaction of selenium with sodium hydroxide at 65-70 degrees C and under phase transfer conditions to give sodium diselenides, which reacts with benzyl halides to afford the dibenzyl diselenides in good to excellent isolated yields. The reaction mechanism is briefly discussed.
