FAST AND SLOW RAMAN SHOCK-WAVE DOMAINS IN NONLINEAR MEDIA

摘要
It is shown that the dynamical evolution equations that describe the stimulated Raman interaction between the pump and the first Stokes wave in a nonlinear medium can allow shock-wave solutions. These shock-wave domains are only possible whenever they move above or below the normal group speeds associated with the pump and the first Stokes wave. Analysis shows that such shock-wave structures can exhibit superluminous/subluminous or even perhaps "tachyonic" behaviour.
