HIGH-PRESSURE STUDY OF FLEXIBLE FLUORESCENT DYE MOLECULES IN SOLID POLYMERIC MEDIA .3. P-N,N'-DIMETHYLAMINOBENZILIDENEMALONONITRILE (DMABMN) - REANALYZED
In this paper we reanalyze previously published luminescence data as a function of pressure for a molecule (DMABNM) which, at one atmosphere, has a luminescence intensity largely quenched by a change in excited state geometry. As for PY, discussed in the preceding paper, two twists are possible; in this case either a malononitrile group or a dimethylamino group. From our reanalysis of these data we were able to characterize the two twists separately in terms of the relative pressure dependence of k(nr)' which is a function of the rate constants for transfer to and from the twisted and the rate constant for nonradiative dissipation of energy from the twisted state.
