A restrospective study of infections due to Pasteurella and related groups was performed between the Pasteurella National Reference Center and Nancy's CHU from 1985 to 1992. 1153 cases were recorded. Wound infections, particularly bites, were the common forms of pasteurellosis (66,5 %) and noted in young patients. Among infections unrelated to animal wounds (33,5 %), respiratory tract diseases and bacteremia-septicemia were the predominant infections and the majority of the aged patients were from farming population and had an animal exposure. Pasteurella multocida was the main species isolated (57,6 %). After an appropriate antibiotic treatment in wound infections (mainly by beta-lactams and tetracyclines), the patients recovered from their infection. However mortality (7 % in systemic infections) from septicemic infections is high (14 %).
