摘要
The brightness versus voltage characteristics of the flat display based on an array of 32 X 16 metal-insulator-metal (MIM) emitters were studied. It was shown that about 16 gradations of brightness may be provided. The luminuous efficacy of such a display was about 0.4 lm/W. Forming microtips on the base electrodes of the MIM emitters and using a relatively thick operating dielectric (130-150 nm) enabled to obtain an increase in the value of the transmission coefficient alpha up to (7-8) X 10(-3) (which will lead to an increase in the luminous efficacy up to 1.0-1.2 lm/W) and decrease the emission variation between the emitters up to 10%. An array of 128 X 128 MIM emitters was developed using the above-mentioned technique.
