[Co2(C6H10N2O4)(mu-OH)2(C4H16N4)]Cl2.-3H2O, M(r) = 571.19, orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), a = 15.534 (2), b = 14.689 (2), c = 9.534 (1) angstrom, V = 2175.4 (5) angstrom 3, Z = 4, D(x) = 1.744 g cm-3, lambda(Mo K-alpha) = 0.70926 angstrom, mu = 17.33 cm-1, F(000) = 1184, room temperature, R = 0.060 for 2534 independent reflections [\F-omicron\ > 3-sigma(\F-omicron\)]. The complex cation has a dinuclear structure, two Co atoms being bridged by two OH groups. One Co atom is surrounded octahedrally by ethylenediaminediacetate with the alpha-chelation mode and two mu-OH groups, and the other by two ethylenediamine ligands and two mu-OH groups. Both terminals of the (+)580CD isomer take the LAMBDA configuration.
