DETAILED STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATIONS OF HIGHLY ALIGNED LB STRUCTURES OF THIOPHENE DERIVATIVES

摘要
We investigated Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the molecule 3-thienylpentadecanoic acid (3TC15). Polarization-dependent Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) experiments were performed and the results indicate that the molecules are oriented with their long axis upright on the substrate with a weak tilt of 10-degrees. The thiophene moiety occupies an area per molecule which allows a partial interpenetration of adjacent monolayers. The detected monolayer thickness of 2.33 nm is in good agreement with the model of interpenetrating layers.
