摘要
We have studied polarized atomic hydrogen adsorbed on a liquid He surface under conditions in which the two dimensional hydrogen system is not, as in earlier work, in thermal equilibrium with the bulk gas. We are able to control the surface density and temperature independently: the adsorbed hydrogen with a surface density of 2 x 10(12) atoms/cm2 was cooled down to 87 mK. We measured an upper limit of 1.4% for the fraction of recombination heat which went into helium at the point of recombination.
