SUPERLUMINAL VELOCITY, TUNNELING TRAVERSAL TIME AND CAUSALITY

摘要
Recent experiments on evanescent electromagnetic waves seem to detect superluminal propagation. The analogous quantum mechanic tunneling problem is examined here. I introduce a time dependent perturbation and study its effect on the transmitted probability density and retardation time. The results are generalized to relativistic quantum mechanics and electromagnetic wave propagation. No genuine superluminal effects are found.
