CHANGES IN THE LEVELS OF RESPIRATION AND IONS IN THE TISSUES OF FRESH-WATER FISH, LABEO-ROHITA UNDER FENVALERATE STRESS

摘要
Experiments were conducted with the freshwater fish, Labeo rohita to study the effect of fenvalerate on the rate of respiration nd the ions at 6, 12, 24 and 48 hrs. Exposure of fish, Labeo rohita to sublethal concentration of fenvalerate (10mug/L) caused significant decrease in the whole animal and tissue respiration. The ionic content of sodium, potassium and calcium also decreased significantly in gill, brain, liver and muscle tissues of fish exposed to fenvalerate. The per cent decrease in all the parameters was increased with increase in the period of exposure and the possible reasons were discussed.
