TUMOR GROWTH ON CHORIOALLANTOIS MEMBRANE IN EMBRYONATED EGGS

Experimental tumors propagated in rats grow at different rates on the chorioallantois membrane of hatched hen's eggs, but generally slower than in the donor animal. Tumors transplanted in ascites form grow more rapidly. Final weights show usually a lognormal distribution, the medians vary between 188 mg and 1500 mg. By solidly transplanted DS-carcinosarcoma some tumors grow exponentially to weights of about 1000 mg, then pass through a phase of growth retardation; individual tumors react differently.
