EFFECTS OF VARIABLE VISCOSITY AND VISCOUS DISSIPATION ON LAMINAR CONVECTION HEAT-TRANSFER OF A POWER-LAW FLUID IN THE ENTRANCE REGION OF A SEMICIRCULAR DUCT

A numerical scheme based on Galerkin's finite element method was used to solve the three-dimensional governing equations for steady laminar simultaneously developing flow and heat transfer in a semi-circular duct. Two different boundary conditions, constant wall heat flux both axially and peripherally and constant wall temperature, were considered. The study was conducted for a purely viscous non-Newtonian fluid with different power law indices and Prandtl numbers. The effects of temperature dependent viscosity and viscous dissipation were examined and discussed.
