SOL-GEL PREPARATION OF MIXED CERIUM-TITANIUM OXIDE THIN-FILMS

摘要
Thin films of CeO2-TiO2 have been prepared by a sol-gel process involving two alcoxides (Ce(OBu(s))(4) and Ti(OBu(n))(4) in BuOH). A method for preparing the cerium butoxide is proposed. The thin films obtained by spin coating give homogeneous transparent and colourless films in the range of composition between pure TiO2 and pure CeO2. These films are characterized by X-ray scattering and Raman spectroscopy. The data leads to the following models: (i) the film is constituted in an amorphous matrix of titanium oxide including nanocrystallites of cerium oxide, and (ii) the CeO2 crystallite size increases strongly (10 to 50 Angstrom) for compositions with more than 50% CeO2 in the film.
