NONLOCALITY IN A FORCED 2-DIMENSIONAL TURBULENCE

摘要
Nonlocality of the enstrophy cascade is revealed numerically by showing that the palinstrophy production is dominated by extremely elongated wave-number triads. More than 85% of the palinstrophy production comes from such triads whose ratio of the smallest wave number to the middle is less than that of the dissipation length to the diameter of the coherent vortices. Such high nonlocality casts some doubt on the universality of the scaling law of energy spectrum. © 1990 American Institute of Physics.
