RADIATION-EXTINCTION COEFFICIENTS OF PACKED-SPHERE SYSTEMS

摘要
The extinction coefficients of three kinds of packed spheres have been determined experimentally by utilizing a light-transmission technique. Alumina, stainless steel and glass spheres, with size parameters ranging from 4900 to 6300, are used as packing materials. The extinction coefficients obtained are larger than those predicted from uncorrelated-scattering theory, but they are close to the theoretical predictions derived from our correlated-scattering theory.
