VARIATION OF THROUGHFLOW VELOCITY IN A 2-D RISING BUBBLE

A model has been developed to predict throughflow velocity in a single isolated bubble rising at a constant velocity in a two-dimensional fluidized bed. This two-dimensional model incorporates the voidage variation on the surface of a circular bubble, and also includes the dynamic and kinematic conditions on the free surface of the bed. Predicted values of throughflow velocities at the nose of the bubble were compared with the available experimental data and good agreement was obtained. It was observed that the throughflow velocity at the nose of the bubble increases initially, and when the bubble reaches a certain elevation it starts to decrease.
