摘要
The properties of concentrated colloidal dispersions are to a large extent determined by particle-particle interactions and by the flow of liquid around the particles as they undergo diffusional motion in the system, i. e. hydrodynamic interactions. The main techniques used in this work were small angle and quasi-elastic neutron scattering to investigate calcium carbonate dispersions in toluene at volume fractions up to ca. 0. 4. Evidence was obtained which suggested that the thickness of the adsorbed layer decreased with increase in volume fraction probably becoming more compressed at the higher values. Two-body hydrodynamic interactions were also found to play an important role and to depend on volume fraction.
