EXPERIMENTAL-EVIDENCE FOR CHAOTIC TRANSPORT IN A POSITRON TRAP

摘要
Accumulation of moderated positrons in a static Penning trap is observed for surprisingly long collection intervals. Stochastic transport between axial and transverse motion provides the requisite additional phase space to explain the observed trapping. An understanding of this transport mechanism can be used to improve a variety of charged particle traps. Moreover, this system presents a new opportunity to study the onset of chaos.
