We give the main results of the van Hove scenario applied to high Tc superconductors. It is based on the assumption that in such materials the Fermi level lies near a peak in the density of states. We take into account the Coulomb repulsion between electrons and we show that the model explains high Tc's, anormalous isotope effects, very low values of coherence length and relatively large values of Fermi velocity v(F), and finally marginal Fermi liquid properties.
