NONLINEAR PROPAGATION OF PLANE AND CIRCULAR RAYLEIGH-WAVES IN ISOTROPIC SOLIDS

摘要
Nonlinear Rayleigh wave propagation in an isotropic solid is investigated theoretically. Hamiltonian formalism is used to derive a set of coupled equations for the harmonic amplitudes. Both plane and circular waves are considered. Numerical results are presented for an initially monochromatc wave that propagates in steel. It is shown that the horizontal component of the particle velocity wave forms a shock profile, while the vertical component forms a pulse. An evolution equation for the waveform is derived.
