摘要
An introduction to both the classical and the singular‐systems theory of resolution is given. Singular‐system analysis is applied to the case of the coherent confocal scanning microscope. Ultimate resolution is predicted to be half the Rayleigh distance. The results of a low‐numerical‐aperture experiment are presented and compared with the theory. The predicted increase in resolution is accurately found. 1990 Blackwell Science Ltd
