Single crystals of the Bi2Sr2(Ca,Y)Cu2O8+delta phase have been grown by the traveling solvent floating zone (TSFZ) technique. As the concentration of Y is increased, the size of the crystals becomes smaller and inhomogeneous compared with the undoped one. From the carefull study of the growth interface between solid and liquid phases a tendency of finer cellular growth for the higher Y concentration was observed. Because of this fact the Y-content fluctuates at the growth front, resulting in the inhomogenous distribution of the stoichiometry.
