TRIBOLOGICAL STUDIES OF ULTRAHIGH DOSE NITROGEN-IMPLANTED IRON AND STAINLESS-STEEL

摘要
The effects of nitrogen implantation to doses as high as 1 x 10(19) ions/cm2 on the sliding wear resistance and nitrogen concentration depth profiles are examined experimentally. By maintaining the proper implantation temperature, increases in dose induce the formation of thicker nitrogen-rich, wear-resistant layers. Several microns thick layers are demonstrated for both iron and stainless steel.
