摘要
A procedure is described for the electrofusion of protoplasts isolated from rice (Oryza sativa L.) cell suspension cultures with protoplasts isolated from leaves of Porteresia coarctata, a salt tolerant wild relative of cultivated rice. The frequency of heterokaryon formation was assessed by flow cytometry. When heterokaryons were cultured without selection they regenerated a cell wall and divided to form microcolonies. This new procedure for the somatic hybridization of these two sexually incompatible species is providing a novel approach to the production of salt tolerant cultivated rice. © 1990, Gustav Fischer Verlag, Stuttgart.
