DISTRIBUTION OF NITROGEN-FIXING MICROORGANISMS IN PADDY SOILS OF SOUTHEAST ASIA

摘要
The distribution of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms in paddy soils of Southeast Asia was studied. The following results was found: in Thailand, algae 103 to 105, Athiorhodaceae 103 to 105, and heterotrophs 104 to 107; in Malaya, algae 104 to 107, Athiorhodaceae 10 to 106, and heterotrophs 104 to 108; in Philippines, algae 103 to 105, Thiorhodaceae trace to 105, Athiorhodaceae 104 to 107, and heterotrophs 105 to 106; and in Taiwan, algae 105 to 106, Athiorhodaceae 104 to 105, and heterotrophs 104 to 105. Photosynthetic bacteria are distributed widely in the soils of Southeast Asia. Athiorhodaceae can coexist with Azotobacter (having some mutualistic symbiosis) and can exist in some dried soils, too.
