PREPARATION AND CONTROLLED WETTABILITY OF POLY(2,2'-BITHIENYL-5,5'-DIYL) LAYERS

Poly(2,2'-bithienyl-5,5'-diyl) (PBT) layers on Pt electrodes have been prepared from 2,2'-bithienyl (BT) in acetonitrile by constant current method. The potential of the polymer electrode has been varied between 0.2 and 1.6 Volt vs Ag/AgCl in monomer-free electrolytic solution. The thermal stability of the PBT layers is related to the appropriate state of the polymer. Electrical conductivity (sigma = 10(-4) to 10 S/cm2) and the contact angle depend on the potential of the PBT electrode. The reduced form of PBT is very stable during storing over a long period of time while the oxidized form shows lower stability.
