Solvent water H-1 NMRD profiles of hexaaquairon(III) in 1.0 M HClO4 have been obtained at several temperatures and viscosities. Dynamic parameters including the molecular rotational correlation time and the correlation time for the electron spin-lattice interaction have been obtained. The magnetic field dependence of the latter has been investigated. The present data provide a unified picture of the behavior of this system from the point of view of electron and nuclear relaxation. It is found that only part of the hyperfine coupling is significant for electron relaxation. The electron relaxation properties of iron(III) in macromolecules are critically compared to those of the hexaaqua complex.
