INPLANE VIBRATIONS OF COPPER-PORPHINS

A normal co-ordinate analysis has been carried out for Cu-porphin and its deuterated analogues Cu-porphin-d4 (meso) and Cu-porphin-d8 with D4h symmetry, using the Urey-Bradley force field. The in-plane vibrations have been calculated and the frequencies are assigned. The transferability of these constants is tested by calculating the frequencies of copper-meso-tetramethyl porphin and copper-octamethyl porphin, by treating the methyl groups as point masses. The agreement between the observed and calculated frequencies is satisfactory.
