THE ASYMMETRY BETWEEN THE MECHANISM OF OXIDATION AND REDUCTION OF POLY(3-METHYLTHIOPHENE) STUDIED BY ELLIPSOMETRY

摘要
Ellipsometry measurements performed during the electrochemical oxidation and reduction of poly(3-methylthiophene) (dynamic or static experiments) are compared with suitable models. It is shown that oxidation is a homogeneous reaction whereas reduction starts from the polymer-solution interface and then a reaction front propagates through the layer. When the light energy is smaller than the gap energy, the concentration of polarons involved in the oxidation process can be deduced.
