CHEMILUMINESCENT ELECTRON-TRANSFER REACTIONS OF C-60 ANION-RADICAL - ENERGETICS AND SPECTRAL FEATURES

摘要
The electron transfer reaction between C60 anion radical and 9,10-diphenylanthracene (DPA) cation radical generates chemiluminescent emission at 720 nm. This type of chemiluminescent emission is also observed using other cations such as thianthrene (Th) or tri-p-tolylamine (TPTA). The energetics of the electron transfer reactions suggests the formation of the triplet state of C60 (E(T) = 1. 56 eV). The free energy profiles based on Marcus theory indicate that the rate constant for the formation of the triplet is in the range of about 10(9)-10(10) M-1 s-1. The less energetic reactions involving p-phenylenediamine(PPD) or N,N,N',N'-tetra-methyl-p-phenylenediamine (TMPD) cation fails to produce the chemiluminescence.
