The larva and pupa of E. intermedius (Reiche) [dung beetles used in removing dung and controlling dung breeding pest] are described and illustrated. Nesting behavior conforms to Halffter and Edmonds (1982, Publ. 10. Instituto de Ecologia, Mexico, D.F.) Pattern I; an egg is laid in a brood mass constructed at the end of a burrow. The egg chamber is much larger than that described for other species and is located centrally in the mass. Temperature has a direct impact on longevity and fecundity of adults and upon developmental time of immatures.
