摘要
This second paper (the first was published in Population) is based on a comparison of data from two surveys organized by INED and represents a detailed study of the conclusions that can be drawn from regional sources in a national context. The paper emphasizes regional peculiarities as well as the fundamental role played by the Paris area in the pattern of migration trends, and the economic and social structuring of the national area. The role of Paris as a "filter" is analyzed; the area attracts young provincial migrants, but quickly filters out some of them who leave, most often in order to return to their regions of origin. The family characteristics of residents are determined by differential migrations rates among couples and single persons, as well as by birth rates (the birth rate in Paris is the lowest both for natives and migrants). A comparison of the social as well as of the residential histories of individuals shows the close link that exists between geographical and social mobility. Paris is clearly the place to migrate to in order to achieve social success.
