MONOPARTICULATE LAYERS OF TITANIUM-DIOXIDE NANOCRYSTALLITES WITH CONTROLLABLE INTERPARTICLE DISTANCES

摘要
The arrested hydrolysis of titanium tetraisopropoxide by millimolar concentrations of water in a mixture of chloroform and 1-propanol in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide and tetramethylammonium hydroxide resulted in the formation of stable dispersions (sols) of nanocrystalline (18-22 Angstrom diameter) TiO2. Spreading the sols on water surfaces in a Langmuir film balance produced monoparticulate TiO2 films. Heat treatment of a given sol prior to dispersion on the aqueous subphase resulted in nanocrystaline monoparticulate TiO2 films with reduced interparticulate distances.
