obtained in this end-use configuration supports the premise that the mode of protein adsorption and not necessarily the magnitude is a key factor. Caution; however; must be used when translating i n vitro data from a non-competitive adsorption study to the in vivo situation. Nevertheless the demonstrated hemocompatibility (14) of the ULTI carbon surfaced membrane oxygenator seen in animal model studies along with the current measurement of fibrinogen levels further substantiate the premise that fibrinogen levels can build to large values and not lead to a thrombogenic surface.
