摘要
Close encounters are studied in the collision of hydrogen atoms with hydrogen atoms at incident energies of 2 to 60 keV. Those incident particles which are scattered through an angle of 1.5°or 3°are examined to find the fraction P+1 which have lost an electron in the encounter, the fraction P0 which have remained neutral, and the fraction P-1 which have captured an electron. The P-1 component, which is a measure of the reaction H + H → H- + H+, is everywhere low, at these scattering angles, never exceeding 4%, but it does show an interesting oscillatory structure. This quantity has a maximum evident at 7.5 keV and suggested maxima at 50 and 3.5 keV. Similar measurements are made for the H-on-H2 collision, and these show a peak in the H- production at 12 keV. For the H- -on-H collision, measurements of P+1, P0, and P-1 are made where the fast particle is scattered through 1.2°. No oscillatory structure is seen in this case for incident energies between 2 and 50 keV. © 1968 The American Physical Society.
