A RESONANCE EELS STUDY OF CO MONOLAYERS ON GRAPHITE

摘要
An electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) study of carbon monoxide monolayers physisorbed on graphite is reported. Negative ion resonances are observed in the vibrational excitation cross sections at beam energies of ∼ 1.6 eV (the 2Π resonance) and ∼ 18 eV (the 2Σ resonance). Resonance electron scattering angular distributions from the 2Σ resonance are used to study the orientational ordering of the CO molecules within the commensurate monolayers, showing that the CO molecular axes are approximately parallel to the surface with some evidence for out-of-plane tilting. © 1990.
