SPINNING GENERATORS OF HOMOGENEOUS AEROSOLS

Based on the experimental data of a number of users of spinning sprays, formulae are obtained which enable the mode of operation to be specified. Operation in the detached ligament mode is necessary if near-homogeneous main drops are desired. In this case, prediction of the number and size of main drops can be made accurately for many liquids. There is a lack of information about the number and sizes of satellite drops. Calculation of the radius of the stop-distance ring shows that water drops, from the standard spinning-top spray, remain almost spherical when projected from the rotor but drops of liquids of low surface tension deform and travel less far in consequence.
