Scattered light and specific heat data on xenon was analyzed using the recent nonlinear renormalization group calculations obtained in the phi **4 theory in three dimensions. The minimal set of free parameters that the theory imposes is sufficient to describe these data even for the case where, in the usual analysis, many correction terms to scaling are needed. It is shown that it is very difficult to determine the influence of transients neglected in the phi **4 model. Reduction to dimensionless quantities is obtained in agreement with two scale factor universality. It is shown that the asymptotic amplitudes of the singular quantities are also related to the amplitude of the first confluent corrections according to the critical path considered.
